Summer Construction Update

The name of the game at North Polk over the last several years has been construction, construction, construction.

This last fall election, to meet the growing needs of students, the North Polk Board of Education called for a ballot proposition for the sale of up to $17 million in general obligation bonds. Thanks to a community vote and overwhelming support in the November Election, funds were to be generated from the passage of the bond referendum to allow the district to construct a new Career Tech Addition to the High School, and an additional baseball/softball complex, as well as complete classroom upgrades at West and Central Elementary Schools.

Well, those funds are already making a positive impact this summer! Among the bond's three initiatives, our Building and Grounds team has been diligently refurbishing Central's oldest classrooms. Over the past few weeks, they've begun updating them with new ceiling tiles, fresh paint, LED lights, replacement carpet, updated blinds, and new coat racks. These upgrades are set to be completed before the start of the school year when we welcome our students back into our halls.

These upgrades aren’t the only work that is underway this summer at Central and throughout the district. Leftover dollars from previous projects have allowed us to complete a renovation of the Central cafeteria and band room. At the same time, the additions that have also been taking place over the last several months at both the Middle School and Central are set to be completed and officially moved in and ready for students in the coming weeks.
